SF based music therapist focused on meeting peoples needs through the use of music. |
My name is Emma Tarai and I am a board-certified music therapist. I started playing the flute at age 10. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in music education and flute performance. I taught music education in the Bay Area, K-6, for a few years before returning to school to become a music therapist. I attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA where I completed a Master’s degree in Music Therapy. I completed my clinical internship at Morton Bakar Center in Hayward, CA.
I have experience working with a variety of population in many settings. During my internship, I served clients age 50 - 100+, older adults with psychological and skilled nursing needs. My first job after the internship was at Cordilleras Mental Health Recovery Center as a Rehabilitation Therapist, serving clients with developmental disabilities and mental illness in a locked treatment unit. In addition to music therapy practice, I also teach flute to children and adults with all abilities. I studied flute with Katherine Borst Jones at Ohio State University. I have been teaching flute for over 8 years, instructing beginners to early advanced students. My work experience as a music therapist helped me to develop unique and individualized approach in flute teaching. I focus on helping students build a strong foundation in musicianship as well as adapting to each student's needs to achieve individualized goals. I am a current member of American Music Therapy Association and the California Association for Music Therapy (CAAMT). |
